Our children form mindsets and a sense of self during the incredibly important early years developmental window and these are consolidated throughout primary school.

In this webinar, Maggie will explore the research, as well as her practical experience as a mother/grandmother, teacher and counsellor, to challenge unhelpful social conditionings and stereotypes, particularly in relation to gender, which impact how our children feel about themselves.

Maggie will explore how we can ensure all children are guided and supported to feel seen, heard, valued and understood despite the social and cultural limitations that often create invisible barriers, and which can have long-term impacts

In this session, Maggie will:

▬ explore why what happens in the early years window is so important to our children’s sense of self
▬ look at some key developmental differences between boys and girls that reinforce or counter stereotypes
▬ explore how many of our beliefs about gender impact the way parents and teachers respond to kids
▬ reframe some unhelpful, deeply embedded beliefs (i.e. boys are strong/naughty while girls are fragile/good).
▬ look at the influence of temperament on our relationships with our kids
▬ identify some key strategies for supporting children around friendships.
▬ show us how to help all our children build bravery, resilience and optimism.

Disclaimer:

Maggie acknowledges that gender is more fluid than fixed and while respecting biological, neurological and hormonal differences – there is not an ‘all boys’ or ‘all girls’ reality. On top of that, there is social conditioning that is deeply embedded in culture and ancestry.

So when Maggie uses the terms girls or boys, she is referring to a statistically significant number of children; however, much of what we will be sharing may also be relevant to children of the opposite gender or individual who identify outside of the boy/girl construct.
