For parents of under-8s, early childhood educators and Family Day Care professionals.
Our children form
mindsets and a sense of self during the incredibly important early years
developmental window and these are consolidated throughout primary school.
In this webinar,
Maggie explores the research, as well as her practical experience as a
mother/grandmother, teacher and counsellor, to challenge unhelpful social
conditionings and stereotypes, particularly in relation to gender, which impact
how our children feel about themselves.
She explores how we can ensure all children are guided and supported to feel seen, heard, valued and understood despite the social and cultural limitations that often create invisible barriers, and which can have long-term impacts

In this session, Maggie :
▬ explores why what happens in the early years window is so important to our children’s sense of self
▬ looks at some key developmental differences between boys and girls that reinforce or counter stereotypes
▬ explores how many of our beliefs about gender impact the way parents and teachers respond to kids
▬ reframes some unhelpful, deeply embedded beliefs (i.e. boys are strong/naughty while girls are fragile/good).
▬ looks at the influence of temperament on our relationships with our kids
▬ identifies some key strategies for supporting children around friendships.
▬ shows us how to help all our children build bravery, resilience and optimism.
Disclaimer
Maggie acknowledges that gender is more fluid than fixed and while respecting biological, neurological and hormonal differences – there is not an ‘all boys’ or ‘all girls’ reality. On top of that, there is social conditioning that is deeply embedded in culture and ancestry.
So when Maggie uses the terms girls or boys, she is referring to a statistically significant number of children; however, much of what we will be sharing may also be relevant to children of the opposite gender or individuals who identify outside of the boy/girl construct.
